Behavioral health centers can’t avoid patient abuse lawsuits

By Matthew Santoni (March 29, 2022, 3:37 p.m. EDT) – A Pennsylvania federal judge will allow two alleged abuse lawsuits at Devereux Foundation behavioral health facilities across the country to proceed to discovery, after denying most of the motions of Devereux to dismiss the cases.

U.S. District Judge Anita B. Brody said Monday that a few parts of the two related lawsuits would be cut, such as a “Jane Doe” whose claims were barred by the statute of limitations, and claims Pennsylvania-based Devereux was directly responsible for staff who allegedly physically and verbally abused patients.
