KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): Peanut butter importer Jif has been asked to recall the products from the market, Director General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said.

He said a check carried out by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on data from Malaysia’s Food Safety Information System revealed that the product had been imported into that country.

Dr Noor Hisham said the Department of Health took note of the product recall from the US market for potential Salmonella contamination through a notification from the International Food Safety Authorities Network.

“The notification stated that the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) had ordered the recall of Jif peanut butter products with lot numbers 1274425 through 2140425, namely with 425 in the last three digits, because they were contaminated. by Salmonella bacteria.

“The peanut butter products have been distributed to several countries such as Canada, Thailand, Honduras, Spain, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia,” he said. said in a statement today.

In addition, Dr Noor Hisham said that the Ministry of Health through the Food Safety and Quality Division (BKKM) will continue to monitor all entry points into the country for the batch concerned.

“Sellers should immediately stop selling the affected lot while consumers who purchased the product should avoid consuming it,” he said.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning if found in meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and processed foods.
