The Ministry of Health receives donations worth more than $126,000 to help them in their fight against COVID

The Department of Health today received items worth more than $126,000 from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that will help them in their fight against COVID-19.

These items include locally made mattresses, pillows, beds and blankets, masks, personal protective equipment and hand sanitizers.

Upon receiving the donation, Minister of Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said over the past few weeks that he had visited Kadavu, Vanua Levu and other parts of Fiji and during these visits they have received various requests to modernize nursing stations in health centers as well as to equip local health structures.

He says other communities have asked the ministry to establish new nursing stations or a medical dispensary in their villages.

Dr. Waqainabete says that these items will definitely be put to good use as they will be distributed to Fijians who definitely need them and will also improve their service delivery as they will be delivered to medical facilities across the country.

LDS Church representative Paul Whippy says they continue to pledge their support to the ministry, other ministries, and other organizations involved in humanitarian service.

Whippy says they have resources they would like to make available to other people who, in current situations, need the resources they have.
