Childhood vaccinations begin this week at Nevada health centers | Local

ELKO – Elko County is partnering with Nevada Health Centers to provide a COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Saturday, November 20, and vaccines for ages 5 to 11 will be available at the NHC starting this Wednesday.

A walk-in vaccination clinic for COVID-19 and childhood vaccinations will be offered every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 762 14th St. (Elko Family Medical Center). Vaccines during the walk-in clinic are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Wait times depend on the volume of patients.

Appointments can also be made online or by calling 775-738-5850.

“We are also in the process of integrating additional vendors to offer the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine,” Elko County said.

The clinic on November 20 will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) products will be offered for the first, second and booster doses. The first and second doses will be available for people 12 years of age and older and booster shots will be available for people 18 years and older who qualify.

The booster injections recommended by the CDC may help provide continued, long-lasting protection against serious complications, hospitalization and death from COVID-19 for some people. You can choose which booster you receive, as CDC guidelines now allow you to mix and match the dosage for booster shots.

The following guidelines established by ACIP and CDC apply to people who have received Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech as a series of primary vaccines:

  • People 65 years of age and older and residents of long-term care facilities should receive a booster injection at least 6 months after their primary series
  • People aged 50 to 64 with certain underlying medical conditions should be boosted at least 6 months after their primary series
  • People 18 to 49 years of age who are at high risk for severe COVID-19 due to certain underlying medical conditions may receive a booster at least 6 months after their primary series, depending on their individual benefits and risks.
  • People aged 18 to 64 who are at increased risk of exposure and transmission to COVID-19 due to their work or institutional environment may receive a booster at least 6 months after their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series

Additionally, people aged 18 and over who have received the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine may receive a single booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), Moderna, or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at at least two months after receiving their primary vaccination.

Patients who have received a Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine and prefer to receive a Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) booster are encouraged to contact their primary care provider for next steps or to refer to vaccines. gov for more information.
